Moss and growth scraped off your roof by Fully Covered, roofing and building specialists. Cody runs it, with a team behind him. Ring Cody, or send a photo of the roof on WhatsApp for a straight answer.

Moss holds rain against the tiles, and every frost this winter works at them. A photo from the garden is plenty to go on.

Moss on a roof

Moss grows where a roof stays damp, which is usually the slope that gets the least sun and anywhere a tree hangs over it. It starts in the gaps between the tiles and along the edges where one tile laps over the next, and once it has a hold it spreads across the face of the tiles in thick green cushions. Moss holds water like a sponge. That keeps the tiles wet long after the rain has stopped, and in a hard frost the water held against a tile freezes, which over enough winters is what flakes the face off an old tile. A thick mat can lift the bottom edge of a tile, so rain that should run over it gets blown up underneath. Clumps break off in the wind and wash down into the gutters, where they sit and hold the water up. None of this happens in a single winter, and a little moss on a roof is no emergency. A roof wearing a thick coat of it is a roof holding water it was laid to shed.

Scraping

Fully Covered cleans a roof by scraping it. Scraping is what it sounds like: the moss and growth are scraped off the tiles until you can see the roof again.

The people scraping your roof are roofers. If the moss has been hiding a slipped or cracked tile, that is a repair we do as well, and it is on the roof repairs page.

A roof clean, start to finish

  1. The form above

The job, your name and a phone number go straight to Cody's email. Add a photo of the roof if you have one: taken from the garden or the pavement is fine, and it shows him more than a description can.

  2. Moss off the tiles

The moss and growth are scraped off until the tiles show again. Scraping is the method Fully Covered uses.

  3. Anything the moss hid

A cracked or slipped tile under the moss is a roof repair, and roof repairs are on this site because Fully Covered does them. You are told straight what it is.

Roof cleaning questions

How do you clean a roof?

By scraping it. The moss and growth come off the tiles until the roof shows again, and that is how Fully Covered cleans a roof.

How much does a roof clean cost?

It turns on how big the roof is and how far the moss has got, so there is no fixed price on this page. Send the form above with a photo of the roof and Cody will tell you where you stand.

Is moss on a roof urgent?

Rarely. Moss works slowly, over winters, by keeping the tiles wet. A thick coat is worth having off, but it is no reason to panic.

Do you fix the tiles as well?

Yes. Slipped and cracked tiles are roof repairs, and the roof repairs page shows some of ours. If the moss has hidden one, you hear about it.
